RYA Competent Crew CourseAt the end of this 5 day course you will be equipped with what was known in Nelsons Navy as being able to Hand, Reef and Steer. You will learn how to rig the sails, adjust them to suit the wind conditions of the day . You will learn how to handle a boat under sail, and how to get from one place to another using the wind alone. You will also learn some basic boat handling under power, picking up a mooring, and bringing a boat alongside in a harbour.
After the course you will have a taste to do more sailing and further your skills and experience and should have become a useful crew member on board a sailing yacht. The Competent Crew course is ideal for dinghy sailors wishing to learn to sail a cruising yacht and for those who have already done some sailing but want to learn a bit more about crewing safely and using the correct techniques. The course is designed to help you become a safe and proficient crew member whilst having fun out on the water and ashore.
You will be awarded a Competent Crew course certificate for completing this course.
After completing the RYA Competent Crew course you will then be able to progress on to the RYA Day Skipper theory and RYA Day Skipper practical courses.
This is a five day course and can be done in a single block or one three and one two day chunks. It can be done as any of our 2 plus 3 RYA Courses, simply choose which days you wish to join and give us a call or email. Or if you have already successfully completed a Start Yachting course then just choose any three days.
